Turning Silence into Feedback

Sometimes, growth looks like an unopened Loom.
In the beginning of the month, I got an email summary from Loom with my October monthly stats, showing me the views, interactions, engagement... and it made me PAUSE. As I looked at my videos and realized something surprising: not every video I’ve created has even been viewed ONCE! (As you can see below.)

THIS STUNGGGGG!!!!
After all, I pour my time and energy into these, researching, recording, speaking from the heart. But then I realized how much I love Loom.... because it shows the truth!
It’s not about every video being seen; it’s about knowing who it reached and what I can learn from it.
That reflection led me to another realization, I’ve been doing the same thing with my applications and proposals. When I’d receive the email saying, “We’ve decided to move forward with another candidate,” I’d quietly file it away and move on, labeling it mentally as a “no.”
But recently, inside the Virtual Assistant Leadership Academy (VALA), a mentorship community created by Breanna Cain, I learned a valuable lesson from one of our coaches:
“A rejection is just redirection. Ask for feedback. Don’t assume and learn from the process.”
That advice changed everything!!!!!!
Now, when I get one of those emails, I don’t just archive it. I reply. I say thank you for the opportunity, and I ask, “I’d love to know if there’s any feedback you can share to help me improve for future roles.”... Goshhhh, and if you do not know how to approach with a friendly email, just ask your handy dandy Chat GPT, Chat is your personal assistant at the end of the day!!!!!!
This simple shift has transformed the way I see myself, from someone waiting for opportunities to someone actively refining my craft.
Because the truth is, not being chosen doesn’t mean you weren’t seen. It might just mean you’re still shaping into the person that client, project, or season needs.
And just like those unopened Looms, your effort still counts, it’s still energy put into the world.
Remember, every “no” is feedback waiting to be uncovered. Ask so you can grow into your confident self being!
